So it's been a long time since I've posted on this blog...I've had a lot going on and I've been rethinking a lot of things. One thing I've been thinking a lot about is my career. I've been busy planning opening a baby boutique. I decided on this after visiting the Atlanta market with my sister-in-law this past April. I immediately fell in love with both the idea and reality of owning a store. I also realized that a lot of the things I saw at the market I had not really seen in stores. I got really excited and with the help of my husband/new business partner, Bella Nyah Baby Boutique (Nyah is my baby girl's name) was born.
I'm very excited about the future of this new business venture. I really think it fits who I am and it's become a new passion of mine. I still plan on doing the PR thing, but I'm just really focused on this baby boutique. I believe in multiple streams of income, so I doubt this baby boutique will be the last thing I do....expect many more great business ventures from me in the future-I'm full of them! (;

Networking 101!
My oh my!!! It's been a busy month since my last post. I've been trying to focus on getting back in the PR game by attending a few events and networking. I'm also thinking about going back to school...we will see about that though.
Everyone knows that part of being a publicist is having great connects-particulary in the media. You're always trying to meet new people, networking and staying on top of industry trends. You have to be creative and think out of the box. I am proud to say that the publicists here in Atlanta are some of the most talented and innovative PR pros on the planet. Many of them inspire me to do better and be competitive.
Anyway, it's always good to get out and catch up with fellow publicists and those in the industry. On January 28th, I attended an indusrty mixer hosted by my good friend Autumn Essie Bailey-Ford (Autumn Bailey Entertainment). The event is titled "Get Connected" and it is held the lastThursday of the month. This past month it was held at Gordon Biersch on Peachtree St. The event was PACKED! But, that was a good thing because I made a lot of good connections and like I said, it was good to get out and network.If you are in the Atlanta area, I advise you to come to the next "Get Connected" event. It's definitely worth it.Check out the "Get Connected" Facebook page here!
On Feburary 12th, I had the pleasure of attending the "Women on the Move-Feel Love, Show Love, Honor Love," event at the Mason Murer gallery. The event honored women who are on the move in their respective fields. The event was all about recognizing the positivity of women and about women being empowered. Women like Mrs. Evelyn Jackson (widow of former Atlanta mayor Maynard Jackson), and radio personality (and my Soror) Rashan Ali were among those honored.
I had such a good time at the event because of the people who were there. Ed and Lisa Wu Hartwell, Dwight Eubanks, Mychael Knight, Roger Bobb and last but not least, celebrity stylist/PR pro from RHOA-Tracy Sipp.
I plan on attending more events in the upcoming week. Needless to say, my schedule is pretty full. That's a good thing though. I like staying busy. (-;
Peace!

Rachael Turns 9!
So this past Saturday, my daughter Rachael turned 9. It was a pretty big deal because she's my firstborn and she's almost a decade! My how the time flies. It seems like just yesterday I was a 20 year old carefree college student who had just found out she was pregnant. I remember the panic I felt and how the thoughts that my life was over paralyzed me. To be honest, I thought about not having my daughter. I was so concerned about all that I had to do and the life that I felt I had not lived to its fullest. I was being quite selfish.
At the very beginning of my pregnancy, I was involved in a car accident. I told my sister Shonda, and she advised me to go get checked out to make sure the baby was okay. At the time, I had decided that I did not want to have the baby so it didn't matter to me if the baby was okay or not. My sister pushed me to go anyway, so reluctanty I made my way to the hospital. My husband (who was my boyfriend at the time rode with me).
Once the nurse called me to the back, she asked me what I was there for. I explained to her that I had been in a car accident and I was pregnant and my sister made me come have the baby that I wasn't keeping checked out. She gave me a blank stare and went on to listen to my heartbeat and check my blood pressure.
I layed back on the examniation table while she wrote notes in my file. While she had her back turned, she asked me how far along I was. I replied that I was about 4 or 5 weeks.
The next thing I know, she turns around and in one quick motion lifts my shirt, squirts this cool blue gel on my stomach and places a baby doppler in the area where she had just put the gel. I had no idea what she was doing, but after a few short minutes, I heard this little rhytmic beat.
I looked at the nurse, afraid, I asked her what the sound was. "That's your baby heartbeat." was her answer.
I began to cry. At that moment, I felt an instant connection with the tiny fetus growing inside me. The nurse went and got Tremain and he came to the back to listen to his child's tiny heartbeat. We both cried. I knew at that moment that I had to give life to this child.
Tremain and I were married on September 4, 2001 when I was 4 months pregnant. My new husband joined the Air Force and by Septemeber 19th, we were moving to Eglin AFB in Florida where he was based.
Rachael Marie was born on January 15, 2002 at 10:45pm on the Air Force base.
I look back at that time and remember how nervous and afraid I was. I was in no way ready to be a mommy. I was still young myself. But, life doesn't always go the way we planned. I am not against abortion, but I know it wasn't the right choice for me. I knew I had to have my daughter.
Rachael entered my life and forced me to grow up. I learned quickly what true, unconditional love was. I learned not to be so selfish. I learned that I really had nothing to fear, and that motherhood suited me well afterall.
I love my firstborn to pieces. Sure, there are things I could do better by her, and I am working on those things. I realize that she is a reflection of me....my hope for her and my other two children is that they live long, happy lives and are kind and compassionate citizens of the world. (-:
Below are some pics of Rachael and her friends at her birthday party this past Sunday. I would also like to send out a Skeeeeee-Weeeeee!!!! to my Sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Here's to 103 years of service..I love you all andI love my A.K.A!!!
Happy Birthday to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr! Thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice so that we can all enjoy even the most basic freedoms!

My First Blog Post! Yay!!
Okay...so how generic is the title of my first post? LOL! I've thought about blogging for a long time but for some reason I've finally decided to do it. I guess what was stopping me before was the thoughts in my head telling me "Who cares what you have to say?!" I've finally realize that it doesn't matter..I have a voice in this world and I've decided to use it.
So...what can you expect from this blog??? Let me start off by saying that first and foremost, my opinions are my opinions. You don't have to agree. I'm not going to use my blog as a platform to diss other people, but if I don't agree with something or someone, I have no problem saying so.
This blog will be about my life and what it's like to be Tina. I have three beautiful children and an amazing husband who is also one of my best friends (my other bff is my older sister Shonda). I will discuss our lives in this blog to a certain extent. I will also talk about my career. I'm an up-and-coming publicist who is learning to step out of the shadows and go after the career she loves doing. PR is my passion and no matter how hard I try, I can't get away from it.
I've decided to live 2011 differently. I've wasted a lot of time and I am determined to stop doing that. I plan on surrounding myself around people who are about their business. Those type of people motivate me. That's what I need.
So, join me on this journey if you will. It's gonna be one hell of a ride! It won't always be pretty, or nice, or fun, but oh well...life isn't that way. I can promise you one thing though, this journey will help me grow as a person, and quite possibly you will too.
Peace and Love Always!
